Acute stress: This is the body’s reaction to a new or challenging situation. It’s that feeling you get from an approaching deadline or when you narrowly avoid a car accident.
Episodic acute stress: This is when acute stresses happen on a frequent basis. An example can be because of repeatedly tight work deadlines.
Chronic stress: This is the result of stressors that continue for a long period of time. Examples can include continual confrontational relationships or working in a toxic environment. Being under constant stress, affects our mood, body and relationships, especially when it feels out of our control. Often it can make us feel anxious, irritable and affect our self-esteem. Experiencing a lot of stress over a long period of time it can lead to physical, mental and emotional exhaustion, or burnout.
