Maintaining a positive outlook is an important part of being more yppah. Positive thinking is about understanding that challenges and setbacks happen and knowing that you have the skills and ability to work through them.
Did you know it’s been estimated that we have as many as 80000 thoughts a day? A large amount of these are negative, repetitive, and serve no real purpose. Minimising these thoughts by dealing with things at the time and not letting them fester is a key skill to develop.
We have a bias to register and dwell on negative stimuli more readily. The truth is that from time to time most of us either overthink or bury our head in the sand - it’s only natural.
As humans, we tend to:
Remember traumatic experiences over positive ones.
Recall insults and criticisms more often than praise.
React more strongly to negative situations.
Think about negative things more frequently than positive ones.
Even though you probably feel in control of your thoughts most of the time, a situation can throw you off course. Often thoughts can consume us, even when things are going well in life. It’s how you rationalise these that will keep you on top.
Managing your thoughts better is a key skill to becoming more yppah.
